Delma Godoy – Brazilian Artist Plastic

I’m living and working in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil

As an artist for the past 28 years, I have researched many new techniques and forms based on my search through ceramic and other languages, including painting, printmaking digital, design and photography.

In 1995, I began a survey of more than 50 types of minerals and clays collected from different Brazilian states. These materials were burned at various temperatures in several types of ceramic kilns.
The result of this work is Refractory Lands, which contains an array of textures and colors derived in unexpected ways.

This work has since been exhibited in several solo and collectives Exhibitions throughout Brazil and abroad.

In all of my work, materiality is intrinsically linked in both my sculptures and paintings. By this I mean that the material or the possibility of a material is covered to a certain limit, which allows me to design throughout this interaction.

The conceptualization is a result of this process.

I begin with a sketch from the imagination where the shapes, colors and textures are executed from a first thought. This is important because I think an image is one of the main features of my work. This allows me to add all kinds of methods to the initial draft, which now has form, content and is interconnected with the previous techniques.

The organic, plasticity, lightness, transparency and mainly the primary observation of our evolution and nature are my main goals during this process.
